Historical & cultural experiences are often a major part of our travel adventures. We have done Civil War tours, walked portions of the Oregon Trail, and visited numerous historical sites across the country. Autumn and I have had the honor of working with missions’ organizations in Kenya and Haiti – immersing ourselves in their local cultures.

We had the opportunity to do a Chacchoben Ruins excursion in Costa Maya during our most recent MSC Cruise! It was an awesome experience and we HIGHLY recommend The Native Choice!

The van ride to and from the ruins was lengthy and hot, but seeing local villages made it an enjoyable adventure. Our tour guide did a great job at sharing authentic Mayan history and personal stories regarding their culture. It was supposed to be a ruins/lagoon excursion, but our ship’s arrival time caused a change in plans. The Native Choice did a great job at accommodating our changes!

To be honest, this might be a difficult excursion for families with young children. I know our kids would have reached a state of boredom lol. But it was an awesome experience for the 2 of us! We even got to see wild monkeys! And no… (for those who wonder) I didn’t pet them like I did in Africa 😂🤣😂
